SMIU observes Kashmir Black Day

The Directorate of Students’ Affairs and Counselling at Sindh Madressatul Islam University (SMIU) organized Kashmir Black Day on Monday, October 28, 2024. The event featured a solidarity walk led by Vice Chancellor Dr. Mujeeb Sahrai, accompanied by deans of various faculties, academic department chairpersons, officers, employees, and students. The walk was held within the university premises to express support for the Kashmiri people.

Following the walk, a solidarity program was held at the Sir Shahnawaz Bhutto Auditorium, where Vice Chancellor Dr. Mujeeb Sahrai, Dean Dr. Zahid Ali Channar, Director of Students’ Affairs (DSA) Mr. Muhammad Naeem Ahmed, and students delivered speeches. They strongly condemned India’s occupation of Kashmir and the use of brutal force against innocent Kashmiris. The speakers urged the United Nations, the global community, and human rights organizations to raise their voices for Kashmir’s right to self-determination and against the ongoing human rights violations and killings.

As part of the event, SMIU’s Literary Society and Debating Society organized speech competitions and a short story writing contest focused on Kashmir. A documentary showcasing the struggles of the Kashmiri people and the atrocities committed in the region was also screened. The documentary was produced by SMIU’s Media and Training Centre.

The event concluded with a Dua (prayer) led by Dr. Umair Raeesuddin, Assistant Professor at SMIU, for the Kashmiri people. The event was attended by deans, chairpersons, faculty members, officers, and students, who came together to express their support and solidarity with Kashmir.
